How long and how many times a week is a typical session?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes. Most clients are seen once or twice a week in the beginning then, as time goes on, less frequently. The number of sessions depends on what your current needs and goals are.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of time a client is in counseling depends the nature of the problem and the goals of the counseling. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of counseling. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to receive counseling for a longer period.

What if I want couples counseling, but my partner won't come?

Unfortunately, sometimes one partner is not as willing as the other to come in for counseling. However, we often find that it is possible to improve the relationship with just one person involved in counseling.

How much are your Fees and do you take insurance?

My standard fee is $125.00 per 50-minute session. A sliding scale is available and is based upon your combined gross household income and number of household members. I keep my fee low to provide quality therapy for those without insurance or for those who choose not to use their insurance for psychotherapy.

I accept several insurances including but not limited to Cigna, Blue Shield, Magellan, Aetna, and Cal Optima as well as being a  PPO out-of-network provider.  Some questions you will want to ask your insurance company are:
            What is my deductible?
            What is my co-pay?
How many sessions am I limited to?
What are the terms of my plan and when will they begin?
Who does my mental health coverage "carve out" to?

Many insurance companies utilize what they call "carve outs"; another company which they have contracted with to pay for their insured's mental health services. The fact that I am contracted with Blue Shield as an in-network provider does not guarantee that that a client who has their insurance through Blue Shield will be covered. It all depends on who your insurance has carved out to. Please feel free to contact me before you schedule your first appointment and I will gladly verify your insurance coverage with your provider. In the event you schedule with me and your insurance does not pay for your visit you will be responsible for payment.
It is important to remember in order for you to use any sort of insurance, even as a PPO out-of-network provider, I will have to give your insurance company a mental health diagnosis. Some diagnoses are covered by insurance, some are not, and it can take a few sessions for me to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. In addition, this diagnostic information goes into your health care records. For this reason many clients choose not to use insurance for psychotherapy.

Cash, check or credit card will be accepted at the time of your appointment.
