How long and how many times a week is a typical session?

Sessions are usually 50 minutes. Most clients are seen once or twice a week in the beginning then, as time goes on, less frequently. The number of sessions depends on what your current needs and goals are.

How long will I be in counseling?

The length of time a client is in counseling depends on the nature of the problem and the goals of the counseling. Some clients have a very specific problem that can be worked through in a set course of counseling. For others, counseling is an on-going learning process and they choose to receive counseling for a longer period.

What if I want couples counseling, but my partner won't come?

Unfortunately, sometimes one partner is not as willing as the other to come in for counseling. However, I often find that it is possible to improve the relationship with just one person involved in counseling.

How much are your fees and do you take insurance?

My standard fee is $125.00 per 50-minute session.  I accept several insurances including but not limited to Cigna, Blue Shield, Magellan, Aetna and Cal Optima as well as being a  PPO out-of-network provider.  Some questions you will want to ask your insurance company are:

    What is my deductible?

     What is my co-pay?

How many sessions am I limited to?

Who does my mental health coverage "carve out" to?

Many insurance companies utilize what they call "carve outs"; another company which they have contracted with to pay for their insured's mental health services. The fact that I am contracted with Blue Shield as an in-network provider does not guarantee that that a client who has their insurance through Blue Shield will be covered. It all depends on who your insurance has carved out to. Please feel free to contact me before you schedule your first appointment and I will gladly verify your insurance coverage with your provider. In the event you schedule with me and your insurance does not pay for your visit you will be responsible for payment.
